These findings suggest that opportunities exist for improving diabetes management for LTC residents with T2DM. Recent research shows that each year, 35% of residents with Type 2 diabetes (T2DM) in US long-term care (LTC) facilities experience level 1 hypoglycemia (glucose ≥54 to <70 mg/dL) and 24-25% experience level 2 hypoglycemia (glucose concentration <54 mg/dL).Don't miss out on key industry trends—follow Life Sciences by PointClickCare!#DiabetesResearch #HealthcareInnovation #Type2Diabetes #LongtermCare

Despite the high risk of cardiovascular disease in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), a recent study uncovered that 79% of cardiovascular clinical trials exclude patients with CKD.These findings suggest significant evidence gaps in the effectiveness of cardiovascular medications for patients with all stages of CKD. Because CKD is present among 44% of individuals aged 70+, answers may lie in real-world data from long-term care facilities.Enhance your knowledge with timely updates—connect with Life Sciences by PointClickCare: https://lnkd.in/efEp9YGX#HealthcareInnovation #LongTermCare #RealWorldData

Did you know that flu vaccination rates among long-term care (LTC) residents are incredibly high? Let's dive into the numbers! 💉👥In the PointClickCare Life Sciences database, the number of distinct residents receiving a flu vaccine is broken down by month. The highest administration occurs during the month of October, with nearly 500,000 residents receiving a vaccine. 📊Annually, close to 1 million of our residents receive a flu vaccine, making up over 66% of the total population. These impressive vaccination rates demonstrate the commitment of LTC facilities and healthcare providers to prioritize the health and well-being of their residents. 💪💙By ensuring that a significant portion of the LTC population is vaccinated against the flu, we can help prevent the spread of respiratory infections and reduce the severity of flu-related complications. It's a testament to the collective effort and dedication to protecting vulnerable populations. 🌟🙏As we continue to navigate the challenges posed by respiratory viruses like RSV and influenza, let's remain vigilant in our efforts to promote vaccination, follow recommended guidelines, and prioritize the health of our communities. Together, we can make a difference! 💙💉 #VaccinationMatters #ProtectOurCommunity #RSVandFluPrevention

When it comes to protecting residents in long-term care (LTC) facilities, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) have implemented guidelines mandating influenza vaccination before the onset of flu season. 💉🍂Flu season typically begins in the winter months, which means that influenza vaccines become available in the fall. The CDC supports this by recommending the administration of influenza vaccines in LTC facilities by the end of October, with availability starting in September - which is only a week away! The trend in our facilities confirm this recommendation, showing a higher uptake of influenza vaccines during the fall months, tapering off as winter approaches. 🍁❄️Given the similarities between RSV and influenza in terms of clinical characteristics (symptoms, vitals, etc.) and the anticipated time of infection, it raises the question: do GSK and Pfizer follow a similar administration timeline for their vaccines? 🤔It is crucial to stay updated with the recommendations provided by the manufacturers and healthcare authorities. As more data becomes available, it's essential to consult trusted sources and healthcare professionals for the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding the administration of these vaccines. 💊Remember, vaccination plays a vital role in preventing and reducing the severity of respiratory infections like RSV and influenza. By following the recommended vaccination timelines and guidelines, we can collectively work towards protecting the health and well-being of LTC residents. Let's stay informed, stay protected, and prioritize the health of our aging and vulnerable communities! 🌟💙 #VaccinationMatters #StayProtected #RSVandFluPrevention

Important RSV Treatment UpdateWhen it comes to RSV infection, it's essential to know the available management options. While there are currently no specific treatments for RSV, researchers are diligently working on developing a vaccine and antivirals to combat this respiratory virus. In the absence of targeted therapeutics, the current approach to managing RSV involves rest, staying hydrated, and using over-the-counter fever reducers and pain relievers.According to our data, the use of bronchodilators, corticosteroids, and antipyretics has significantly increased during both 20- and 30-day RSV infections. Among these, bronchodilators demonstrated the largest observed increase, while antivirals were used the least during RSV infection. It's worth noting that previous studies have shown conflicting results regarding the long-term clinical differences between the treatment group and placebo, particularly for antivirals.Experts suggest that bronchodilators should be primarily used to alleviate bronchospasms, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or for individuals with a family history of asthma during RSV infections, as they can help relieve breathing restrictions. However, it's important to remember that while bronchodilators may improve breathing, they do not directly mitigate or reduce viral replication throughout the body. This is especially crucial for individuals with weaker immune systems, as inhibiting viral replication is key to managing RSV. These findings further emphasize the urgent need for an RSV-specific treatment or preventative therapeutic. With our data sets, there is a hope for a breakthrough in RSV treatment! #RSVtreatment #StayInformed #FindACure
