This profession has only been boosted to the forefront in Dragonflight. Receiving brand-new specializations that allow Leatherworkers to customize their potent crafts just to their liking, they'll often be sought out by you if you're trying to boost your Item Level. If you'd like to take this power into your own hands, here's everything you need to know about Leatherworking in the Dragon Isles.

Overview

World Of Warcraft: Dragonflight - Complete Guide To Leatherworking (1)

Leatherworking is the keystone profession for refining hides and scales, materials received from Skinning. While other professions might take these for their miscellaneous recipes, Leatherworking uses them in almost everything it does.

As such, it's best to pick up Skinning for your second profession, granting you the ability to seek out these ingredients for free.

However, if you already have a dedicated Skinning character, Enchanting gives you the opportunity to plant especially powerful modifiers on the gear you create.

To acquire the Dragon Isles Leatherworking skill and begin ranking up, seek out Hideshaper Koruz in Valdrakken, as he will be your main trainer. You'll find him with Ralathor the Rugged, the Skinning trainer, on the lowest terrace of The Artisan's Market.

After you've bought the baseline ability, you can begin crafting your hides and scales into gear any time you'd like.

Before you do, though, it'd be wise to either craft or purchase profession equipment from the Auction House. These enable you to make higher-quality armor and weapons by boosting different stats.

The main purpose of a Leatherworker is to use their materials and reagents to provide arms and armaments for relevant classes. These recipes are the great majority of what you'll be crafting for yourself and others.

Weapons

Dragonflight doesn't afford Leatherworkers many weapon recipes, but what there is can be some of the best-in-slot items for hunters and spellcasters, fetching a pretty penny on the Auction House and Artisan's Consortium.

However, armor isn't all that you can make. As you progress through the Dragon Isles, you'll pick up miscellaneous recipes for armor kits, toys, and drums, which can be consumed for a buff or a new collection in your toy box.

Armor Kits

Armor Kits are the first type of consumable recipe that you'll receive, which can bring permanent buffs to certain pieces of your gear.

Drums

Drums have been a staple of Leatherworking in previous expansions, and the latest Feral Hide Drums function as a lesser Bloodlust, boosting a party or raid's haste by 15 percent for 40 seconds. The recipe can be picked up by your profession trainer at level 15.

How To Level Up In Leatherworking

World Of Warcraft: Dragonflight - Complete Guide To Leatherworking (5)

The best way to efficiently level through Leatherworking is similar to most of the other refinement professions. Upon hitting certain milestones, you'll want to craft orange recipes that reward three levels, as indicated by the number in front of the name. You'll want to always make sure you have a good supply of leathers and scales in your bags.

  • At level one, head to your profession trainer and purchase Trailblazer's Scale Bracers. Make a couple until you hit level five.
  • Purchase and craft Trailblazer's Scale Boots until level ten.
  • Purchase and craft Trailblazer's Scale Vest until level 15.
  • Purchase both recipes available to you and craft one Durable Pack and one Feral Hide Drum to get you to level 20.

From this point onward, rare reagents like Dense Hide or Lustrous Scaled Hide will be integrated into your leather and mail recipes, respectively.

  • Purchase and craft Trailblazer's Toughened Chainbelt to reach level 25.
  • Purchase and craft Trailblazer's Toughened Grips until level 30.
  • Purchase and craft enough Protective Gloves or Jeweler's Covers to elevate yourself to level 35.
  • Purchase and craft Alchemist's Hat until level 40.
  • Purchase and craft Trailblazer's Toughened Spikes until level 45.
  • Purchase and craft Trailblazer's Toughened Legguards until level 50.
  • Purchase the last of your recipes and craft Trailblazer's Toughened Coif until level 65.

Once you've hit level 50, your profession trainer will no longer have any recipes to offer you. To continue on to the max rank, you need to seek out recipes yourself, which can come from PvP, raiding, Renown, world drops, or certain specializations.

Leatherworking Specializations

World Of Warcraft: Dragonflight - Complete Guide To Leatherworking (6)

As you hit level 25, a new tab in your Leatherworking UI will become available to you. These are your specializations, and by using points of Dragon Isles Leatherworking Knowledge, you can train in one or two that fit your needs.

Dragon Isles Leatherworking Knowledge can come from a wide range of sources, like crafting a recipe for the first time or completing a profession quest for your trainer.

However, be aware that you won't have enough Knowledge to specialize in all four trees at first, so choose your mastery wisely.

Leatherworking Discipline

The first specialization is Leatherworking Discipline, and its unique talents allow you to improve at all of your crafts by saving on material costs or boosting your Skill to make four or five-star quality gear.

Leather Armor Crafting

Leather Armor Crafting is exactly as the name implies, and it grants you specialized recipes while helping you improve at making gear for Rogues, Druids, Monks, and Demon Hunters.

Mail Armor Crafting

Just as with the second specialization, Mail Armor Crafting is its equivalent for Hunters, Shamans, and Evokers. As the new Dragonflight class directly benefits from this tree, it's sure to help you bring in that Auction House gold.

Primordial Leatherworking

The final specialization, Primordial Leatherworking, is what you're looking for if you seek to make endgame armor. This tree is responsible for the special elemental patterns and Epic Leatherworking recipesfor raiding, Mythic dungeons, and PvP.
