Service Maintenance Intervals for 2012 Hyundai Elantra?
I've owned the Hyundai Elantra since newly bought just over a year ago. I'm a bit confused. The guide book that came with the car says that service maintenance should be performed every 6000 km. or every 6 months, whichever comes first. Yet, the Hyundai dealer keeps sending me an e-mail every three months saying the car is now due for maintenance. Could someone please tell me which it's supposed to be. Every three months, or is it six months like the guide says?

Even 6 months seems a bit too often for an Elantra. What happened to service every year ?

The manufacturer's recommended maintenance service schedule as noted in the manual ( and which may also may be found on the manufacturer's website ) is the default maintenance service schedule you should be following.
So, if the manual " says that service maintenance should be performed every 6000 km. or every 6 months " then that's what you should do.
btw - does your manual make any distinction between a ' severe ' maintenance service schedule and a ' normal ' maintenance service schedule ?
i ask, because Canada is often defaulted as a ' severe ' maintenance service schedule environment by some manufacturer's - usually translating to more frequent service intervals than would be required under a ' normal ' maintenance service schedule.

Yes, because of Canada's severe climate, there are a few items listed in the manual that should be inspected or changed more often, but I see nothing in the guide about taking the car in for regular service every three months.

Then if that's the case, 6000 km. or every 6 months it is.....do that and you're fine.
btw - how many kms would you say you typically log in month ?

We seem to average about 1000 km. per month. I guess I was concerned about breaking the warranty, but that doesn't appear to be the case.
Thanks for the many helpful replies on this.

Not uncommon for some folks to log about 2,000 +/- kms a month these days.
Could be the dealer is simply going under a similar assumption, which may be prompting the seemingly premature service notices you're getting from them.
In other words, the dealer's just assuming you're getting to 6,000 kms a lot sooner than you actually are. .

The tuition is due for the dealership owner's children at that exclusive private school. Take your car in - he needs your money. The tuition payments are due quarterly so he needs to get you in every 3 months. Don't let him down!
